Afterward, we hike on the Fantanele mountain. After a break in a rustic cabin in the mountains, we head back to Sibiel, where we visit the Museum of Icons and where a hearty dinner with Romanian specialties awaits us. Of course, we cannot spare a glass of juice (Romanian housemade brandy).

Day 3: Rasinari – Magura Peak – Cisnadioara (5 - 6 hours hiking)

All day long we hike: from the village Rasinari, which got its name from the resin collectors (resin = rasina) we head to the “Rose Garden”, at about 1100 meters above sea level, and to the Magura Peak at the height of 1300 meters. From here we have a great view over Transylvania. On our way to Michelsberg (Cisnadioara,) we´ll reach the “Half-Stone” with fossils from the Limestone Age. Next, we visit then the Roman basilica in Cisnadioara, a typical Transylvanian Saxon village. Dinner at a peasant family in Rasinari. We return afterward to Rasinari with a horse carriage.

Day 4: Paltinis – Rasinari (5 - 6 hours hiking)

Early in the morning, we go by bus to Paltinis (Hohe Rinne), the highest-situated health resort in Romania (1.400 m). This is the starting point for an approximately 6-hour hike in the Cindrel Mountains. Our route leads us from Paltinis, through Oncesti, and Tomnaticu to Rasinari. On the way, we stop for a picnic at the Wolf Garden. Dinner in Rasinari.

Day 5: Sibiu = the European Capital of Culture 2007

We will drive to Sibiu with regional means of transport. Sibiu is the city nearby. There you have a guided tour on foot in the old city, where you will get to know the sights of the European Cultural Capital 2007. In the afternoon you have free time. You can take a walk through the city, you can visit the Village Museum, you can also go to take a bath in the salt lakes of Ocna Sibiului (Salzburg). Dinner and overnight in Rasinari.

Day 6: Rasinari – Balea Lac – Sighisoara – Biertan (3 hours hiking + 180 km driving)

Today we leave the region of Sibiu and go to the highest Carpathians Mountains of Romania: the Fagaras Mountains. Trip to the Balea glacial lake (2.033 m). We can expect wonderful views on our approximately 2 - 3 hour hike. After a picnic break at the Balea Waterfalls, we continue our trip to Sighisoara (Schäßburg) passing through Trappold (Apold), where we visit the fortified church.

In Sighisoara, the most beautiful and well-preserved inhabited citadel in Europe, we will see the 64 m high Clock Tower, the landmark of the city, and the Museum of History (inside), among others. We will see Vlad Draculs's birthplace and climb the Covered Staircase until we reach the Church on the Hill. Behind the church, under some old trees, you can visit the cemetery on the hill, which is probably the most beautiful in Transylvania. Dinner and accommodation for 2 nights at the Pension in the fortified church of Biertan (Birthälm).
