The Gateway to the Roofs of Romania
Program Proposal:
The trip that we propose begins in Bucharest and leads us to the most beautiful and wild mountains in Romania, the Carpathians. The wild mountains with tall and abrupt cliffs and large woods with beautiful flora and fauna give us the feeling that there's nothing more beautiful, or more recreative than to hike around here. The trip we introduce, is a medium difficult hiking trip, with not too long daily stages. On our way you have a chance to see natural monuments like "the Sphinx" or "Babele" rocks, but also the mystical land of Bucegi mountains, a world of relaxation and adventure.
Itinerary
Day 1: Bucharest - Sinaia (123 km / 2 h driving)
Meeting with the English-speaking guide in Bucharest and transferring to Sinaia. We will start here our escape in the Carpathian mountains, enjoying the beauty of nature that makes Sinaia known under the “The Pearl of Carpathians”. We will walk here to Quota 1400, admiring the great panorama of the Bucegi mountains and Prahova Valley.
Overnight for one night in Sinaia.
Day 2: Bucegi Plateau- the "Babele" and "Sphinx" rocks - (4 hours walking time)
Today we climb up to 2300 m. First, we will go by cable car up to the Bucegi Plateau, where we visit the famous "Babele" and "Sphinx" rocks, two natural wonders. Here the powerful wind and the rain have carved in millions of years the profile of a male head that has an enigmatic smile.
We will take a walk back in time through the legends of this place. Then, in order to enjoy the most beautiful views over the Prahova Valley we go to Ialomicioara Peak. Afterward, we visit the "Pestera" monastery, a place where the Orthodox tradition founds its home in the heart of the mountains- this will last for about 2 hours.
Dinner and accommodation at the monastery.
Day 3: The Bucegi Mountains: Bran – Brasov (5 hours walking time)
After taking breakfast at the monastery, we continue our hiking adventure. Today you will get familiar with the Bucegi Mountains, almost the tallest in the South Carpathian Mountains.
