Package Itinerary

The tour starts and ends in Bucharest. After meeting the guide you begin the visit to the city: you will see the Palace of Parliament (the Ceausescu Palace)- the second largest building in the world. Next, we drive to Transylvania. You will pass across the Carpathians in order to see the Peles Castle in Sinaia and Dracula's Castle in Bran.

Then we drive to Moldavia and to Transylvania. On your journey, you will visit monuments on the UNESCO Heritage lists such as the Church- Castle in Prejmer, Sighisoara's citadel, Biertan Fortification, and also the Painted Monasteries of Bucovina such as Voronet, Moldovita, and Sucevita. In this tour, we want to show you not only the medieval cities (eg. Brasov and Sibiu) but also the life of simple people in Romania. To show you this our guide will visit with you some peasant families, priests, and nuns.

Program

Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest

City tour in Bucharest (50 km). Meeting with the English-speaking guide at the airport/ railway station in Bucharest and transfer to the hotel in Bucharest.

After a refreshing break follows the city tour with the visit to Bucharest`s main touristic attractions: Press House, the Kisselef boulevard, the Arch of Triumph, Victory Square, the Victory’s Boulevard, Revolution Square, the Cotroceni Palace, the Palace of Parliament, and of course the old streets like the Lipscani Street. Accommodation and dinner in Bucharest.

Day 2: Bucharest – Pitesti – Curtea de Arges – Sibiu (274 km).

Breakfast and departure to Sibiu passing through Pitesti and driving on the Olt Valley, one of the most spectacular and beautiful areas in Romania, located in the heart of the Carpathians mountains.

After a refreshing break, we will take the city tour of Sibiu to discover its medieval treasure. We will admire here one of the most well-preserved medieval citadels in Romania, a capital of History, even a European Capital of Culture, as it was designed in 2007. We will visit here the Fortifications, the Large Square, The Smaller Square, The Huet Square, The Council Tower, the Evangelical Cathedral with its famous organ of 6000 pipes, and The Bridge of Lies.

For dinner, we drive to Sibiel, a traditional village nearby of Sibiu, where a peasant family is inviting us to taste the Romanian specialties. Overnight for one night in Sibiu.

Day 3: Sibiu – Medias – Biertan – Sighisoara (113 km).

After breakfast, we drive to Medias, the birthplace of Hermann Oberth (the father of the space-flight program Appollo 13). Also, we will follow history`s tracks by visiting the citadel. We continue our trip through UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Biertan. We will visit here the 15th-century fortified church, which used to be Bishop 39; residence for more than 300 years. After that, the journey will lead us to Sighisoara (Schässburg), one of the most beautiful and well-preserved medieval cities in Romania.

Here we will make the city tour by visiting the Citadel - a 12th-century Saxon edifice located in the historic center. Still occupied, the citadel is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers the visitors sights like The Clock Tower, Dracula`s birth house, and The Covered Staircase that leads to the wonderful Church on the Hill. Free time in the Citadel. Accommodation and dinner in Sighisoara.

Day 4: Sighisoara – Bistrita – Gura Humorului (312 km).

In the morning we begin our gateway to Bucovina, passing through Bistrita. We make a city tour of Bistrita, a medieval city from the 12th century. Later we arrive in Gura Humorului where we accommodate the beautiful Monastery in Humor, founded by a noble family. Accommodation and dinner for 2 nights in Humor.

Day 5: UNESCO-World Cultural Heritage in Bukowina: Humor – Voronet – Sucevita – Moldovita (210 km).

After breakfast we visit the UNESCO- Monasteries in Bucovina, also named the Moldavian Monasteries. First, we see the Voronet Monastery „The Sixteen Chapel of the East in blue”, one of the best-preserved monasteries of the 15th century with frescos. Next, we see the Moldovita monastery where one of the nuns is going to tell us more about the everyday life of the nuns at the monastery. Next, we go to Sucevita, the „Pearl of the Moldavian Monasteries” and to the ceramics workshop from Marginea. Overnight and dinner at the pension in Humor.

Day 6: Humor – Agapia – Bicaz Gorges – Prejmer – Bran (353 km).

After breakfast, we visit the Agapia monastery, the largest nuns` monastery in Romania. Here the church still has a unique fresco on the inside. Next, we take the road to Transylvania, driving through to the Bicaz Gorges, where, we will enjoy a real spectacle of wild nature.

The gorge twists and turns steeply uphill for 5km, cutting through sheer, 300m-high limestone rocks. We will admire also the beauty of the „Red Lake“, the largest natural mountain lake in Romania. On our way to Brasov, we visit the fortified church in Prejmer- the most important and best-preserved fortified church in Transylvania. After a short walk on the battlement parapet and after seeing the famous „Death Organ” we are invited to drink a cup of coffee and eat a piece of cake at one of the local families. Day 7: Bran – Brasov – Sinaia – Bucharest (169 km).

After breakfast, we visit Dracula`s Castle. We drive to Brasov where we begin our city tour. You get to see the main touristic features of this medieval city inside the Carpathian Arch: The Council Hall, the Black Church (inside visitation included), the Weaver`s Bastion, the Black and the White Tower, the Schei quarter, etc. In the afternoon we drive to Sinaia, where we visit the summer residence of the Romanian royal family. A modern palace built at the end of the 19th century is the main attraction in Sinaia.

The kings were Prussian Germans from the Hohenzollern von Singmaringen family. In the evening we arrive in Bucharest. Accommodation and dinner in Bucharest.

Day 8: Travel Home.
