The region of Sibiu is situated in southern Transylvania, boasting a unique cultural and natural landscape. The Region includes the city of Sibiu and its surroundings, standing out through its exceptional heritage and traditions carried on by a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural community.
Sibiu's perfectly preserved old town is a testament to its past as a prosperous Saxon trade hub. You'll find yourself effortlessly wandering through centuries of history as you navigate the city's two main sections:
The Upper Town: Here you'll find the elegant Large Square (Piața Mare), the bustling Small Square (Piața Mică), and the iconic Council Tower. Climb the tower for a panoramic view of the city's terracotta roofs and the surrounding Carpathian mountains.
The Lower Town: Explore the city's more vernacular side with narrow, winding streets and covered passageways connecting the old squares.
A former European Capital of Culture, Sibiu has since focused on its vivid cultural life, also developing its tourist profile. Alongside its other valuable assets, traditions had an important role in shaping Sibiu as a viable tourist destination, food culture being one of the main attractions of the Region.
