Although there is no real proof this castle inspired the Dracula legend (some say Poenari Fortress has more legitimate/closer ties), or that Vlad himself ever entered the place, the castle sure does get the imagination running wild! The ride up from Brasov is breathtaking and the rolling countryside takes you back in time, easily allowing you to imagine Vlad the Impaler and his knights charging full force over the hills, ready to attack!! The castle itself is somewhat small so the tour is a quick, easy one that is certainly worth the time and small entry fee if architecturally beautiful castles, spooky legend, tiny rooms, hidden stairways, and a breathtaking setting made all the more ominous due to the gray winter sky and barren landscape are your thing. It certainly was ours!! My 10 year old loved it! A must see if you happen to be in Transylvania!
