Take a peek in Cisnadie, a city located only 5 km. away from Sibiu, to visit one of the most beautiful fortified churches in Transylvania.
Originally built in the 12th century as a Romanesque basilica, the church was fortified during the 15th century to protect the local Saxon population against repeated Ottoman raids. The fortification process included the construction of fortified towers over the two side entrances and the choir, the building of a double structure of defense walls, a moat and several defensive towers along the walls.
You will have the chance to admire here the first Clock Tower in Transylvania, but also to enjoy the story of the lightning rod brought in 1759 especially for this fortified church. Take your time also to discover its tresure room, the secret place that kept hidden the tresure of the entire city!
